In the current generation Land Cruiser (J250), Toyota already somewhat combines the past and the present. Now it’s taking it a step further. Toyota is installing a brand new V6 with no less than two turbos in a 40-year-old Land Cruiser.

For the design of the current Land Cruiser (J250), Toyota clearly drew inspiration from Land Cruisers from long-gone eras. Including the Land Cruiser from the J60 generation that debuted in 1980. Specifically for the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Toyota is pulling a modern 3.4 V6 with two turbos off the shelves to install it in a 1985 Land Cruiser J60. The result is this Toyota Turbo Trail Cruiser.

The 3.4 engine in the front of the Turbo Trail Cruiser is a power source that delivers about 390 horsepower and also serves in the current Tundra. With that power, the 40-year-old Land Cruiser is almost twice as powerful as the original. It doesn’t stop at just an engine transplant. The SUV stands about four centimeters higher on its legs and rides on 35-inch all-terrain tires. Inside, the modifications remain limited. Here, Toyota only installs a modern JBL audio system with a screen.

The Turbo Trail Cruiser is not Toyota’s only entry for the SEMA Show. For example, the brand is also parking a rugged Corolla Cross and a dressed-up Camry there.
