De nog altijd mateloos populaire Volvo XC60 krijgt op termijn een elektrisch alternatief. Inderdaad: een alternatief, en geen opvolger. Hij heet Volvo EX60 en wordt de eerste Volvo op het nieuwe SPA3-platform.
De Volvo XC60 doet het in Nederland lang niet gek. Zeker niet als je naar de huidige registratiecijfers kijkt en rekening houdt met de leeftijd van het model. De bestverkopende Volvo is het hier niet, maar wereldwijd is het dat wel. Sinds de introductie van de huidige generatie XC60 in 2017 is de XC60 wereldwijd namelijk Volvo’s populairste model. Onlangs stootte de XC60 de 240 zelfs van de troon als de bestverkochte Volvo-modelreeks ooit. Het huidige model mag nog even mee en wordt dus niet binnenkort opgevolgd door een nieuwe elektrische generatie. Een elektrisch alternatief komt er wel: de Volvo EX60.
Ook weten we nu wanneer we de Volvo EX60 ongeveer kunnen verwachten: begin 2026. De EX60 wordt daarbij de eerste auto van Volvo die op een variant van het nieuwe modulaire SPA3-platform komt te staan. Volvo belooft dat op die basis modellen kunnen tronen die kleiner dan de EX30 en groter dan de EX90 zijn. Daarbij belooft Volvo hogere onder meer grote elektrische rijbereiken en goedkopere productie. Tel uit je winst. De EX90 en de nog piepjonge ES90 (en Polestar 4) staan op de voorganger van de SPA3-basis die SPA2 heet.

The still immensely popular Volvo XC60 will eventually get an electric alternative. Indeed: an alternative, and not a successor. It is called Volvo EX60 and will be the first Volvo on the new SPA3 platform.
The Volvo XC60 is doing quite well in the Netherlands. Certainly if you look at the current registration figures and take into account the age of the model. It is not the best-selling Volvo here, but it is worldwide. Since the introduction of the current generation XC60 in 2017, the XC60 has been Volvo’s most popular model worldwide. Recently, the XC60 even dethroned the 240 as the best-selling Volvo model series ever. The current model will last a while and will therefore not be succeeded by a new electric generation anytime soon. There will be an electric alternative: the Volvo EX60.
We also now know when we can expect the Volvo EX60: early 2026. The EX60 will be the first Volvo car to be based on a variant of the new modular SPA3 platform. Volvo promises that models can be enthroned on this basis that are smaller than the EX30 and larger than the EX90. In addition, Volvo promises higher, including large electric driving ranges and cheaper production. Count your winnings. The EX90 and the still very young ES90 (and Polestar 4) are based on the predecessor of the SPA3 base called SPA2.
