The Mazda CX-5 is a very important model for Mazda, also in the Netherlands. Since the market introduction of the first-generation CX-5 in 2013, the car has been the brand’s most popular car in all but three years. In 2020 and 2021, the CX-5 had to tolerate the CX-30 ahead of it; last year, the 2 was just ahead. However much Mazda has done its best through extensive model year updates to keep the current second-generation CX-5, presented in 2016, up to date, the years are starting to count. Time for a completely new one.
That new Mazda CX-5 is coming soon. On July 10, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 will make its public debut, according to Mazda. That announcement goes hand in hand with the publication of a set of images in which the new CX-5 can already be seen quite well. The new CX-5 will not suddenly become something completely different. Mazda would be crazy. The design of the current generation melts in a sense with that of younger SUVs such as the CX-60 and CX-80. Based on earlier spy photos of the new CX-5, we already had digital drawings of the new model made. It seems that they come pretty close to reality.
The Mazda CX-5 already had mild-hybrid powertrains but will soon also get one or more full hybrid powertrains. Furthermore, it is plausible that the mild-hybrid 2.5 e-SkyActiv G powertrain that replaced the 2.0s in the 3 and CX-30 will also come to the CX-5.
