Mitsubishi Destinator: Just nice to that name

Finally a Real Mitsubishi Again

Mitsubishi Destinator

Aviator, Navigator, Destinator. They all sound alike, but one doesn’t belong. The Destinator is not a Lincoln, but a brand new Mitsubishi with three rows of seats!

If ‘Destination’ means destination, does ‘Destinator’ mean ‘determiner’? According to Mitsubishi, the new name for this completely new SUV should invite you to discover new destinations, and the Destinator’s resolute appearance gives the impression that this can easily be a destination without paved access roads. In practice, you have to be careful with this, because this front-wheel drive crossover is certainly not an off-road beast.

What it is, is a completely new (no direct predecessor) model for growth markets, presented in Indonesia. With a length of 4.68 meters, this car is just slightly shorter than ‘our’ Outlander, although it is only 4 centimeters different. The Destinator is also narrower and taller. It is not a plug-in hybrid, but a petrol model with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that delivers approximately 163 hp. According to Mitsubishi, the car offers ample space for seven occupants.

The most interesting thing about this car, at least for Europeans, is perhaps that this is a Mitsubishi product from front to back. After the secretly somewhat older Outlander, we only see slightly modified Renaults in the Mitsubishi showroom, so this newcomer gives a nice insight into what Mitsubishi’s designers are working on. The Destinator looks absolutely tough and also resembles the apparently larger newcomer that shone on this site just a few days ago. However, that was not this car, so we will wait with bated breath for that larger Pajero-like one.
