Remarkably, despite maintaining the familiar external dimensions, the interior has become more spacious and the luggage space for the mild-hybrid versions has grown to 652 liters. The interior exudes quality with finer materials and offers the possibility of a generous 15-inch multimedia screen, which can be further personalized. Physical buttons return to the steering wheel, making operation more intuitive. Depending on the chosen version, the standard equipment differs, with more luxurious versions benefiting from options such as adaptive cruise control and seat heating.
In terms of engine, the Tiguan offers a choice of various mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. The 1.5 eTSI is available with 130 or 150 hp, while the eHybrid plug-in hybrid can count on 204 or 272 hp combined power – with the 204 hp variant being experienced as more than sufficient in practice. The fast charging up to 40 kW also distinguishes the PHEV in this class, resulting in shorter charging times.
During driving, the Tiguan offers a familiar Volkswagen experience, with an emphasis on comfort and predictability. Those who opt for the optional Dynamic Chassis Control Pro get adaptive dampers that provide extra comfort and stability. However, the focus of the Tiguan is more on relaxed driving than on dynamics; for those who want it more playful, the Cupra Formentor is an alternative choice.
In terms of safety, the Tiguan shows with five stars in the Euro NCAP tests that Volkswagen also leaves nothing to chance here.
The pricing of the Tiguan is on the higher side, especially for versions with more luxury and technology such as the R-Line Edition. It is striking, however, that the plug-in hybrid, due to its low bpm, can in certain situations even be more advantageous than the mild-hybrid. This makes the eHybrid variant particularly attractive for both private and business drivers.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is available with four modern engine options. These are all four-cylinder petrol engines, combined with an electric motor. The range starts with two mild-hybrid powertrains: the 1.5 eTSI with 130 hp and the 1.5 eTSI with 150 hp. With these mild-hybrid systems, the combustion engine is lightly supported by a small electric motor, which contributes to lower consumption.
For those who value electric driving, the Tiguan also offers two plug-in hybrid variants: the 1.5 eHybrid with 204 hp and the powerful 1.5 eHybrid with 272 hp. Thanks to the larger battery pack, which you can charge via a plug, it is possible to cover short distances fully electrically with the plug-in hybrids.
Space and practical usability
Space is one of the great assets of the Volkswagen Tiguan. Thanks to the smart layout, both front and rear passengers enjoy plenty of leg and headroom. A sliding and partially folding rear seat provides extra options for transporting passengers or luggage.
Those who want to take extra items also benefit from a generous luggage space that is easy to expand when the rear seat is fully folded down. In the mild-hybrid Tiguan, the luggage space measures 652 liters, which you can increase to 1,650 liters with a folded rear seat. The plug-in hybrid delivers some loading space: here you can store 490 liters.

Reliability and problems
Although the new Volkswagen Tiguan is generally modern and advanced, there are some points of attention in the field of reliability. For example, several drivers have reported software problems.
