BOVAG: Watch out for notorious scammer!

Volkswagen Polo Renault Clio

Alberto Stegeman and Kees van der Spek, your attention is needed. A con artist is active who has been swindling multiple car dealerships in recent months.

Industry organization Bovag warns car dealerships about a now notorious con artist. He has set his sights on popular young used cars such as the Renault Clio and Captur, Volkswagen Polo, and Kia Picanto. These are not returned after a test drive. The person in question is then difficult or impossible to reach or comes up with an excuse that he has car trouble.

The con artist has allegedly already stolen cars in this way in places including Schagen, Ede, Ruurlo, Groningen, Sittard, and Noordwijkerhout. Bovag warns car dealerships and advises them to use the Elena warning system before giving a car for a test drive. This can be used to check whether a person has previously been registered by a Bovag company for misconduct.

AutoWeek is not a police website, but because we are also not in favor of ‘borrowing and forgetting to return’, we are posting the description of the man given by Bovag. A warned dealer counts for two.
