Are we too hard for Smart? After all, we do not swallow half a ton with many competitors, but in the case of this (traditionally) ‘city car supplier’ it is a bit of a swallow. Moreover, about #5 is simply not a bargain compared to alternatives. The Tesla Model Y and Skoda Enyaq, similar in size, are cheaper in Basistrim. Today’s task is to see if the Smart can justify its relatively high price with equipment and performance.
Just to start with the latter: that is fine. The basic version of the Smart #5 is called Pro and, although has a smaller battery than the more expensive Pro+ and the even more expensive and faster versions, it is not a mudguur with 76 kWh, vehicle-to-load functionality, 150 kw fast charging and a driving range of 465 kilometers. Moreover, this is the only smart #5 with an LFP battery, and that has some advantages in daily use and for this planet. With regard to engine power, the Pro hardly remains at the Pro+, and with 340 hp and a 0-100 time of 6.9 seconds there is little reason to complain. Whether or not the basic version of a model Y is faster and continues, but let’s just ignore that.
Rest assured: this ‘Smartje’ also gives little reason to long for more in the field of equipment. The ‘entry -level’ has a (fixed) panoramic branch with electric sun protection, an electric tailgate, electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors, artificial leather upholstery around the electrically adjustable seats and even an electrically adjustable rear seatrest. Chair and steering heating, Keyless Entry, a 13-inch touchscreen with navigation, adaptive cruise control, climatecontrol with two zones, ‘Highway Assist’, a wireless telephone charger and a 360-degree camera also all belong to the standard equipment. This Smart #5 Pro leaves quite a bit of room for a cheaper version, but it is not yet there. Always a lot of luxury, so! There are also no equipment or external differences between the Pro and the Pro+, so you don’t have to do that upgrade for that either. The even more expensive premium looks more chic and the Pulse offers a somewhat cooler, off-road-like appearance, but in both cases we are suddenly talking about a car of no less than € 57,940. Anyone who is not chic, not tough, but rather sporty, is more lost. Then the Brabus top version, which combines the 94-KWh battery of the middle three versions with an extra electric motor and preferably 646 hp. Just!

I would go for that pro if a smart #5 had to come. Such a LFP battery is very nice and this driving range makes it very easy to live. The equipment is even simply spacious and where there is usually a ‘but’ after it, I am genuinely not so well thinking about what else I would like. That is a good thing, because according to good Chinese use (Smart is half-yellow and the #5 is built there), there is only the ‘Add to shopping cart’ button after selecting a version. As if you order a new USB cable. We still have to select a color, and the good news is that this does not affect the price. My ‘Pulsar Ruby’ copy (deep-dark red) therefore also costs ‘just’ € 48,440.
