Expensive or More Expensive

Car insurance premiums are sky-high. Do you have an Audi parked outside? Then you’re already in trouble every month. Audi is the most expensive car brand to insure.

The average monthly premium for an Audi is a whopping €116.04. That amount is no less than 30 percent higher than the national average. This is according to research by Geld.nl. Why is the insurance premium for Audis so high? According to Geld.nl, this is related to the high costs of repairs and the susceptibility to burglary. Audis are popular in the world where cars are not returned after being borrowed without permission. “That makes them riskier for insurers, and that is reflected in the premium,” says Paul Huibers of Geld.nl. Of course, factors such as the age of the insured cars and that of the policyholder also play a role.

Not only Audi is high in the premium ranking in a negative sense, but also BMW and Mercedes-Benz are high in the list with average monthly premiums of €105.28 and €100.71. To put that into perspective: the average premium for car insurance for a Volkswagen is €89.70, that for a Volvo €82.35 and that for a Peugeot €75.78.

Owners of a Suzuki, Renault or Citroën pay the least on average per month for their car insurance. The average premiums for car insurance for a Suzuki is €66.25, that for a Renault and Citroën are €67.12 and €67.85 respectively.
