Investments in motorways bitter necessity, warns Brabant

Postponement of Seven Projects

Accessibility, quality of life, and road safety in Brabant are suffering greatly from the postponement of seven major highway projects in the province, warns Provincial Executive Stijn Smeulders (Mobility).

According to him, more than 1.5 billion euros have been taken away from the 2.5 billion euros that the State had pledged for this. “It is therefore absolutely essential that a new cabinet still invests heavily in the province,” says the PvdA administrator.

“The credibility of the State is really under pressure here,” says Smeulders, who doubts the reliability of the cabinet. “It is frustrating to see that there has been so little movement in The Hague so far. Simply too much has failed in Brabant in recent years.”

The deputy can still understand postponement due to nitrogen problems, but “ordinary cutbacks to close a gap elsewhere” are completely wrong. “We call on a new cabinet to change that.”
