Huge collection of S-classes (cathedral) and Daimlers under the hammer

Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140

Are you crazy about the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140, the Cathedral, and/or the Daimler Double Six from the same era? Then sit back and relax. A huge collection of these cars is going under the hammer in Brunei.

Both the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140 and the Daimler Double Six are quite old by now, so it is very special to see such a gigantic collection of them lined up. We thank AutoWeek reader Frits van der Ree heartily, because thanks to him we can take a look at this and we are even aware of this auction at all. The cars are not exactly around the corner. It is an auction of state cars in Brunei (on Borneo). So if you want to get one, you have a nice ride ahead of you to see if you have made a good purchase.

According to Van der Ree, who took a look at the cars, the Mercedes-Benzes include no fewer than 25 600 SELs and 22 500 SELs. There are 24 Daimlers Double Six. By the way, you have to be able to handle the steering wheel being on the right. In the case of the Daimlers, that actually has its charm. According to Van der Ree, the cars have not been used for quite some time, the most recent use of one of the cars seems to have been in 2015. Most of the cars have been in storage for about fifteen to twenty years. They have all driven very few kilometers: 8,000 to 30,000 km. There are some signs of use here and there, but the cars seem to have been stored well and are rust-free.

Do you want to strike here now? Then you have to act quickly. Tomorrow (August 2) is the last auction day and today is already the last day to view the cars. We are curious whether a row of these cars will appear somewhere closer to home soon.
