Inconspicuous Sparkle

The Nissan Sunny was never the most striking car on the Dutch roads, but nowadays it is really worth a second look for car enthusiasts. Especially such a neat one.
Successor Nissan Almera is already rapidly disappearing from the streets, but certainly the Nissan Sunny will be a rare sight in 2025. If you see one at all, chances are it is a Sunny from the early 90s. Here we have one from just before that, this example is from 1987. This makes it a fairly ‘early’ one of this generation. AutoWeek forum member Klassiekerrijder came across the Sunny and shared these two photos.

You can imagine, seeing it like this, that even in 1987 the Sunny was not a very striking creation. You bought it because you were looking for a lot of car for your money, because in that respect the Sunny was really attractive. In any case, in terms of reliability. Such Sunnys have not had to do much to reach a ripe old age. Yet this is one of the few remaining examples, because many Sunnys in working order have disappeared across the borders.
The fact that specifically this rather basic example is still here and in good condition is thanks to the first two owners. The first owner kept the car for twenty years, the second for fourteen years. We may be dealing with a family heirloom here. Since 2021, however, the Sunny has been wandering quite a bit. Since that year, no less than seven (!) different owners have passed in review. The current one has owned the Sunny since the beginning of June, so only a short time. Hopefully, this time the love for this rolling time capsule runs deep enough.
