The service cars of German politicians dispose of considerably more harmful substances than the average car of citizens in the country, the German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) reports on the basis of its own research.
According to the study, only 87 of the 238 most important politicians drive in an electric car. “Despite the advancing climate crisis, even after the government’s change, there are no signs that the cabinet consistently switches to economical service cars,” the organization says. The research does show that the share of fully electric cars in the national government has risen slightly, from 50 to 57 percent, compared to last year.
The figures have some comments. For example, the ranking assumes that plug-in hybrids are used exclusively in combustion mode. Previous studies indicate that this is often the case. The specific driving behavior of the German politicians and their drivers has not been investigated in the most recent study.
