Striking outliers
Last September there were many more traffic jams on the Dutch roads than in the same month last year. The ANWB reports this.
The morning rush hour stands out with an increase of 34 percent, followed by an increase of 27 percent during the day. The evening rush hour, according to the ANWB ‘traditionally already busy’, increased by 9 percent.
The ANWB sees regionally ‘striking outliers’. Due to work, the traffic pressure around Amsterdam has risen by 20 percent, among other things. In Gelderland, the traffic jams have increased by 24 percent. According to the ANWB, this is partly due to border controls. In total, this year, from January to September – the traffic jam has risen by 7 percent compared to 2024.
The ANWB reports that the last quarter of the year is known as a busy period on the road. This is due to relatively fewer days off than earlier in the year and ‘difficult circumstances’ as darkness and bad weather. That influences the flow, especially during peak hours.
