Costs exactly the same as before
At the facelift of the Renault Austral, only one thing remained completely unchanged: his starting price. For those € 42,990 you now get at least 47 Renault-Wybertjes in the nose, but what else does such a basic Austral offer?
Renault Austral Full Hybrid E -Tech 200 Evolution – € 42,990
A completely new nose, a sturdy changed butt including new tailgate and a multiple interior adapted to several points: it all belonged when a renewed Renault Austral was announced in April. The new grille contains no less than 47 Renault-Wybertjes, the large logo in the middle is one. The starting price for all that beauty is € 42,990, exactly as much as what the an equally motorized techno version had to cost in January.
This includes a comment, because before there was also a manual-hybrid Austral. It has disappeared, so in both cases we now assume the Hybrid 200 drive with automatic transmission. That is also the most logical choice for the Netherlands, although the still available mild hybrid with 158 hp and X-Tronic automatic transmission has a higher towing weight. With equal equipment, that version is exactly as expensive as the Hybrid 200, but because entry version Evolution is missing here, the starting price of the Mild-Hybrid with automatic transmission is still higher.
A Hybrid Evolution is therefore the cheapest way to end up in an Austral. On the outside it already looks good for the basic version. In contrast to many competitors, for example, Renault has not taken the trouble to develop extra simple headlights for the entry-level, which therefore has ‘just’ beautiful ‘Adaptive Vision LED’ light units. Metallic-Rood is the free color, 18-inch wheels are standard and a thick chromed list gives the side view some chic contrast.
Moreover, it does not remain with appearance. Adaptive cruise control, a fairly serious audio system, automatic climatecontrol, electrically folding exterior mirrors, a reversing camera, Keyless Entry and Google Maps navigation are all standard. The Evolution does have a smaller screen than the other versions. Here you will find a 9-inch touchscreen, while the Techno and Esprit Alpine get 12 inches. The mood lighting is also missing in the cheapest variant and the Evolution is doing it without automatically dimming interior mirror, without a wireless telephone charger, without privacy glass and without roof rails. Furthermore, the door panels and center console at the techno are considerably more beautiful and decorated than at the Evolution. For example, the entire ‘airplane lever’ with the sliding ‘table’ between the front seats is missing on the entry -level.
Evolution above, techno below. What a difference!
Now that we are shifting: before the techno already had a sliding rear seat, now you have to be with the very expensive Iconic Esprit Alpine. That is also the only version that has standard steering and seat heating. Both the sliding rear seat and the seat and steering heating (plus an electric tailgate) are available at the techno as an option package of € 2,000. With the Evolution it is not possible at all, because this version offers hardly any option options.
