On Dutch roads this morning around eight o’clock, there were about 1,100 kilometers of traffic jams, making it the busiest morning rush hour of this year according to the ANWB. Only during some evening rush hours earlier this year was it even busier on the road.
Particularly a number of traffic jams around Rotterdam, where several traffic accidents occurred, contribute significantly to the delays. There is heavy congestion on the A4, A15, and A16.
“We also see many long daily traffic jams in North Brabant and in Gelderland,” said a spokesperson. She cites rain and the end of the autumn holiday as other causes for the enormous traffic volume. Additionally, Tuesdays are often busy on the road.
Rijkswaterstaat already reported the accidents near Rotterdam earlier on Tuesday. On the A16 near Capelle aan den IJssel, an accident occurred in both directions. This traffic service, which only registers highways, measures over 600 kilometers of traffic jams. The ANWB also includes N-roads in the delay calculations.
