In almost the entire country, roads could be extremely slippery on Wednesday morning. The KNMI has issued a code yellow warning for local slipperiness. This warning applies everywhere, except in the IJsselmeer area (Afsluitdijk and Houtribdijk) and on the Wadden Islands.

Wet road sections are freezing. In coastal areas, it can be slippery due to light rain on a frozen surface. The KNMI expects the local slipperiness to last until approximately 10:00 AM and dissipate during the morning.

Rijkswaterstaat reports that several accidents have already occurred on various highways due to the slipperiness. The A58 in Zeeland and West-Brabant was particularly affected, with eleven collisions. Due to the slipperiness, the A58 (Vlissingen-Bergen op Zoom) is closed between Middelburg-Oost and the Stelleplas interchange.

The Zeeland police are receiving numerous reports due to the “extreme slipperiness,” including falls by cyclists and pedestrians, and collisions without injuries. Elsewhere in Southwest Netherlands, seven car accidents occurred, and one report came from the northeast, according to a Rijkswaterstaat spokesperson.

Code yellow was already in effect on Tuesday evening for Overijssel, Gelderland, Utrecht, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg, and was later extended to other provinces. Zeeland was added to the list on Wednesday morning.
