BMW Concept Speedtop: This also goes into production!

BMW Concept Speedtop

On the same shores of Lake Como where BMW presented the Concept Skytop last year, the brand is now unveiling the Concept Speedtop. The BMW Concept Speedtop is a close cousin of the Skytop and, like that open-air enthusiast, will go into production.

During the Concorso d’Eleganza in Villa d’Este on Lake Como last year, the BMW Concept Skytop was received with open arms. That M8-based show car turned out not to be a one-off exercise. There will be fifty copies of it. This year, BMW is bringing the Skytop back to Italy, but this time it is putting a brand new eye-catcher next to it. This is the BMW Concept Skytop.

The BMW Concept Skytop proves that BMW can hardly let go of the concept of a Shooting Brake. In 2023, BMW showed the Z4-based Concept Touring Coupé at the same exclusive Italian car festival. Unfortunately, there was no production version of that. Of the Concept Speedtop that is now shining on your screen, there is! BMW already confirms that it will make seventy of them. The ‘Concept’ part of the name is therefore a bit for show. The BMW Concept Skytop and the final production version of it hardly differ from each other.

The Skytop and the Concept Speedtop fraternally side by side.

We can devote many words to the appearance of the Concept Speedtop, but it is much more effective to look at the photos. The almost V-shaped snout, the tailgate with – with a little imagination – some Bangle influences and the 14-spoke alloy wheels come together with the overall shape of the car better in written form. However, we do not want to withhold a number of color names from you. For example, BMW has come up with the name Floating Sunstone Maroon for the paint color, a color that on the roof incidentally merges into Floating Sundown Silver. The dashboard is finished in Sundown Maroon, the furniture partly in Moonstone White. Sounds nice, right?

BMW Concept Speedtop: even the luggage space is beautifully upholstered.

Just like in the front, the Concept Speedtop is also upholstered with leather in the smallest nooks and crannies in the back. The beautifully lit luggage space is also richly endowed with the stuff. Now that we are in the back of the Speedtop: here you will not find a rear seat, but two storage spaces with lynch straps where two custom-made bags from the Italian leather goods manufacturer Schedoni fit.

With the Concept Speedtop, BMW proves that it has not forgotten its sporty-classic design that characterized the brand years ago. BMW has also not forgotten how to screw thick eight-cylinders into cars. At the front of the BMW Concept Speedtop is a twin-turbo V8 again.
