Toyota has started building a brand new headquarters in Tokyo. The timing is a bit sour for Nissan, which seems to be forced to sell its global headquarters in Japan.
That’s sour: just as it leaks out that Nissan may have to sell its global headquarters to save costs, Toyota announces the construction of a brand new office. If the Japanese weren’t so polite, we would suspect Toyota of deliberately releasing this news now. The new headquarters of the world’s largest car manufacturer will be built in Tokyo, next to the busy and important Shinagawa train station.
When the new building is completed in 2030, you will of course have to squeeze through a meters-thick layer of sustainability, mobility, openness, cheerfulness and diversity to get in. The position next to the station was therefore not chosen by chance, but should emphasize that Toyota is a ‘mobility company’ instead of a car manufacturer.
