Volvo EX40 Thousands of euros cheaper due to a new version

Volvo EX40

The starting price of the Volvo EX40 drops by €3,000. The delivery range in the Netherlands is being expanded with a new base version: the Essential.

Until now, the electric Volvo EX40 had a starting price of €45,995. For that money you drove – and drive – the EX40 Single Motor in Core version. There is now a version below that called Essential. The Volvo EX40 is only available in this new version as a Single Motor and is a few thousand euros cheaper than the Core variant.

The starting price of the Volvo EX40 Single Motor in Essential trim is €42,995. As a Single Motor, the EX30 has a 70 kWh battery and a 238 hp electric motor on the rear axle. That combination helps the compact SUV achieve a range of 479 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with 180 kW.

Does the Essential only offer the essentials? Not at all. For example, the Volvo EX40 as Essential simply stands on 19-inch alloy wheels and you can enjoy things like two-zone climate control, a reversing camera, an audio system with eight speakers, Google infotainment and an extensive package of safety systems. Compared to the Core variant – previously the basic version of the EX40 – the Essential naturally lacks a few things. For example, in the Essential you have to do without an automatically dimming interior mirror, an induction charger, Park Assist at the front, a seat extender and an electrically adjustable lumbar support. The Essential also has slightly simpler interior upholstery.
