First predicted, now confirmed
Fast charging provider Ionity has started installing ultra-fast 600 kW chargers in Europe. To the best of our knowledge, that is a record.
These are Alpitronic HYC1000 chargers, which are remarkably slim given their power and can charge up to 8 cars simultaneously. In that case, the available power is distributed, and you will not reach that 600 kW, but when charging one car, that car can theoretically ‘pump up’ to 300 kilometers of range in less than eight minutes. Neat, although there are currently no cars that can handle this kind of power.
However, there are already cars that charge with more than 300 kW, and developments are happening quickly. For example, BYD has already announced an ultra-fast charging platform. Ionity’s 600 kW chargers were already announced in earlier press releases from Ionity, but Ionity has now confirmed to Automotive News Europe that it has actually started rolling out the chargers. Unfortunately, the company does not say where they are located or how many of these chargers it wants to install in the near future.
