It’s been almost four years since an old Ford Fiesta shone in this column, and we even have to go back to 2017 for the last Mk1. We’re going to make up for that with this ’78.
At the end of 2017, we stopped for the first and last time at a Ford Fiesta Mk1 spotted in the wild. Thanks to AutoWeek forum member Banpei, it’s now time to repeat that again. High time too, because the first Fiesta is a particularly nice spot. They are very thinly sown in the meantime. So, Banpei, thank you very much for sharing the photos!
It is also a Fiesta that comes across as relatively original. In any case, the paint layer still seems fairly original and it looks nice on its steel wheels. Those are not original, by the way, and forum member XBXG also provides proof of this. He spotted this Fiesta once before in 2011. Then it looked almost the same, only then the original steel wheels were still underneath and the car still had its more modest standard exhaust.
So it is not entirely to the last detail as it ‘should’ be, but we will not make a point of that. The most important thing is that the Fiesta radiates that it is treated with love. In 14 years it has not started to look worse, so that says something. The 47-year-old car is also still with the same owner, who already owned it in 2008. If that is not an inseparable couple…
We are dealing with a Fiesta as it was once to be seen everywhere in the Netherlands. A modest copy, with the popular 1.1 in the nose. Finally, a fun fact: this is one of the first cars ever in our country that was required to be delivered with yellow license plates. They became mandatory from 1978 and the Fiesta was registered on January 10 of that year.
