It underlines our point
In the past year, Audi presented a new A5 and a new fuel A6. All versions presented at the time have already been canceled, because both models are only available as a plug-in hybrid. So the S5 is also gone again!
“Modern cars are outdated in no time,” we headed at the podcast yesterday. To make that point immediately, Audi just scraps the S5 on the same day. You know, that is the delicious, a comparative test, a comparative test that damned by a V6 driven station wagon.
And where did we test that car, you ask? Well, against a BMW M340i that has also been obsolete since a recent update! So it can go that fast …
This S5 therefore no longer exists, the M340i in this form does not …
Only as a plug-in
The S5 is not the only victim who falls at Audi, because the brand has decided to cancel all non-plug-in hybrid variants of the A5 and A6 in the Netherlands. That is a rigoureus decision, because when they took office in August 2024 (A5) and March 2025 (A6) these cars were not available at all as a plug-in. Then there were purely traditional TFSI petrol engines on the menu, later the E-Hybrid followed Plug-ins.
Audi apparently considers the gasoline versions to be without a chance, and only runs both the A5 and the A6 as an e-hybrid. Audi itself says it to AutoWeek: “The focus of our customer and our offer is focusing more and more on electrification. At the end of this year, we expect that the vast majority of the premium market will have a plug. Partly because of this we have chosen to stop the TFSI petrol engines of the Audi A5 (35 and 40) and A6.
Given this decision, the non-rechargeable S5 is perhaps a logical, but also a painful victim. With 367 hp, the strongest e-hybrid is exactly equally strong, but a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor is different from a 3.0 V6.
To be clear: this news of course has nothing to do with the electric A6 e-tron. It simply continues to exist and only shares its name and (roughly) format with the non-electric A6, which can now always ride a whole piece of electric. Prices of the plug-in hybrid Audi A5 can be found here, that of the Audi A6 e-hybrid here.
It Underlines Our Point

In The Past Year, Audi Presented a New A5 and a New Fuel-Powered A6. All Versions presented at that time have already bone scrapped, because both models are only available as plug-in hybrids. The S5 is also Gone!

Audi Apparently Considers The Petrol Versions Hopeless and Only Offers The A5 and A6 AS E-Hybrids. Audi itsself Tells Autoweek: “The focus of our customer and our sacrifice is increasingly on electrification. Given This Decision, The Non-ReChargeable S5 May Be A Logical, But also a Painful Victim. The Strongest E-Hybrid is Exactly AS Strong with 367 HP, but a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor is something different than a 3.0 V6.
