BYD Atto 2 DM-I

The BYD Atto 2 is no longer always an EV. It wasn’t always one before, but now it isn’t in the Netherlands either. This is the plug-in hybrid BYD Atto 2 DM-i. It is immediately the cheapest plug-in hybrid in the Netherlands!

Those who want to drive a relatively cheap hybrid can get into the Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV for €29,995. However, that is no longer the cheapest new plug-in hybrid in the Netherlands. That title now belongs to the brand-new BYD Atto 2 DM-i, the plug-in hybrid version of the formerly all-electric Atto 2. AutoWeek was already able to tell you about the Atto 2 DM-i in October last year. Now we have all the specifications and all the prices.

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i comes to the Netherlands in two variants: as Active and as Boost. The BYD Atto 2 DM-i Active costs €29,490, making it more than €500 cheaper than the Leapmotor B10 Hybrid EV. For the Boost, you pay €32,490. In both versions, you are treated to the interplay between a 1.5 four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. This electromechanical dance gives the Active a system output of 166 hp, while the Boost version manages up to 212 hp. The most powerful Atto 2 DM-i reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.5 seconds. In the entry-level model, you have to settle for a 0-100 time of 9.1 seconds. The top speed of both versions is set at 180 km/h, and both are allowed to tow 750 kilograms.

There are more differences between the Active and the Boost. For example, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i Active has a 7.8 kWh battery, while the more expensive Boost has an 18.3 kWh battery. In both cases, these are LFP batteries. The BYD Atto 2 DM-i Active achieves an electric range of 40 kilometers. The Boost version with a larger battery can travel up to 90 kilometers on electric power alone. Additionally, the cheaper variant with the smaller battery can charge at a maximum of 3.3 kW, while the Boost can do so at 6.6 kW. The luggage compartment, regardless of the chosen variant, is 425 to – with the rear seats folded flat – 1,335 liters large.

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i will first come to the Netherlands as the more expensive Boost. The Active variant will follow later this month. The electric Atto 2 is available in one version and is significantly more expensive with its starting price of €36,690.
