Changan E06: electric SUV ‘European design’ for the Netherlands

Up to 450 kilometers range

Changan E06

Can you hardly distinguish all those Chinese SUVs and crossovers coming to Europe? Then prepare yourself, because another one is coming our way. In its homeland China, it’s called Changan Q05, but it’s coming to Europe as Changan E06.

The Chinese car manufacturer Changan has a European portfolio with at least three models in mind. The Changan Deepal S05 and S07 have already been presented to the European consumer, and now a model is being added: the Changan E06. The Changan E06 is a fully electric and 4.44-meter long electric SUV, which in length is comparable to, for example, the MG S5 EV. In terms of size, it sits between, for example, the Peugeot 2008 and 3008. Big brother Changan Deepal S05 is a lot longer at 4.62 meters.

Changan positions the E06 in Europe as its electric entry-level model. The E06 has a 274 hp electric motor on the front axle and has a 61.7-kWh LFP battery in its bottom. That combination is good for a driving range of up to 450 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with 162 kW. The Chinese brand further promises that the SUV will achieve the maximum achievable score of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP safety test. Chinese models – exceptions aside – have been scoring high in the NCAP tests in recent years, so that is not very surprising. The stuff must also remain intact for a long time. Changan gives seven years – up to 160,000 kilometers – warranty on the model.

As far as design is concerned, the Changan E06 is exactly what it is: an electric SUV. In what the manufacturer calls ‘European design’, we now see apparently mandatory design elements such as two-layer lighting at the front and rear lights that are knotted together. Anyone who gets excited about the Changan E06 will have to be patient. The car will only come this way at the end of next year.

Changan may already be known to some extent in the Netherlands. The Mazda 6e shares its technical basis with the Deepal L07, an electric five-door from Changan. In the form of the CX-6e, the Mazda 6e will also have a Changan-inspired SUV alternative. It is not inconceivable that more Changans will receive a Mazda treatment, although nothing has officially been announced about this yet.
