Even Bentley pushes EV ambitions on long track

From 2030 to 2035 to… well

Bentley joins the long line with car makers who release the EV ambitions for the future. Electric Bentleys are coming, but the non-electric specimens can remain for a very long time.

Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Alfa and Chrysler, Volkswagen and Porsche: EV ambitions have recently been pushed by one car manufacturer after the other. Now the list will be a little longer, because luxury brand Bentley no longer believes that his own EV objectives are feasible. Bentley once wanted to be a fully electric brand in 2030, later it became 2035 and if we can believe coach, it is no longer cast in concrete.

That does not mean that Bentley no longer wants EVs. The brand will still come with its first electric car in 2026 and more will follow, but the noble British brand no longer dares to promise that one day it will be completely ready with V8’s and other gasoles. It did, for example, in 2020, because then it was promised in the roaring ‘Beyond100’ plan that the brand would be rapidly electrifying.

That has everything to do with the fact that Bentley is in fact a sister brand of Porsche and Audi, reports CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser to Autocar. Porsche and Audi continue to invest in gasoline to be able to serve the global car market in the future, and therefore Lift Bentley cheerfully. “There is a sturdy dip in the demand for electric luxury cars, and the demand is currently not big enough to justify an fully electrical strategy. The Luxemarkt looks very different than we presented the Beyond100 strategy,” says the CEO.

That Doesn’t Mean Bentley is no longer interested in EVS. The Brand Will Still Launch ITS First Electric Car in 2026 and More Will Follow, But The Noble British Brand No Longer Dares to Promise that it will One day be Completely finished with V8S and other Gasoline Engines. It did do so in 2020, for example, because the resounding ‘beyond100’ plan promised that the brand would electrify rapidly.

That has Everything to Do with the Fact That Bentley is in Fact a Sister Brand of Porsche and Audi, CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser Tells Autocar. Porsche and Audi Continue to Invest in Gasoline Power in Order to Be Able to Serve the Global Car Market In The Future, And So Bentley Happily Joins. “There is a significant dip in Demand for Electric Luxury Cars, and Demand is Simply Not Large Enough at the Moment To Justify A Fully Electric Strategy.
