Mercedes-Benz is talking about family expansion for the G-Class. You might think this refers to the smaller electric sibling that is coming, but that is not the case.
The biggest (or smallest) news about the Mercedes-Benz G-Class at the moment is the arrival of a brand new little brother. When a press release about ‘family expansion for the G-Class’ landed in our digital mailbox this afternoon, we thought that was what it would be about. Nothing could be further from the truth: we get to see the brand new Mercedes-Benz G-Class Cabriolet better than ever. That is also still in the pipeline.
Of course, the partially open G-Class is a lot less surprising than the small electric ‘G’. After all, it is simply a G-Class with a partially open roof. Still, that is a bit of an oversimplification, because it will be somewhat different from what we were used to from the original G-Class. It will be a landaulet, as Mercedes-Maybach already offered for the previous G-Class. That naturally fits well with the extremely wealthy target group that Mercedes-Benz has in mind. Incidentally, this immediately confirms that the new G-Class Cabriolet will simply be offered as a Mercedes-Benz. However, a Mercedes-Maybach version may also be in the works again.
