Ford promises ‘Model T-moment’ with new EV platform

Ford Mustang Mach-E Versus Ford Explorer EV

Ford promises that something very important will be presented next week. It concerns a new EV platform, which according to Ford CEO Jim Farley is of monumental importance to the brand.

Ford announces that on August 11, next Monday, it will ‘share more about the plans to build and design groundbreaking electric vehicles in America’. That still sounds a bit vague, but according to, among others, the Detroit Free Press, Jim Farley further explained the plans during the presentation of the quarterly figures. “This is a Model T moment for us at Ford. An opportunity to put a new family of vehicles on the world, which offers incredible technology, efficiency, space and features.” Farley also stated that it includes a new EV platform.

That new EV platform is possibly the platform that Ford first hinted at early last year. Not only more modern, but also cheaper EVs should be able to be developed on that platform. With this, Ford wants to compete with, among others, the Chinese. It is not yet entirely certain whether Europe will also benefit from it, but the fact that Farley speaks of ‘the world’ is promising. Who knows, this platform may pave the way for a return of the Ford Fiesta as EV, but well, let’s wait and see how concrete it all is on Monday.
