Hyundai Nexo: new electric hydrogen SUV for the Netherlands

Tiny Battery

Hyundai Nexo

Hyundai is one of the few brands that still dare to commit to hydrogen. The fact that it takes hydrogen seriously even in 2026 is evident from the arrival of the new Hyundai Nexo. It’s coming to the Netherlands, but it’s certainly not a bargain.

Stellantis leaves hydrogen as it is, and thus Hyundai, Toyota, and BMW are still virtually the only major brands that see a future in the application of hydrogen in passenger cars. The Hyundai Nexo, which was presented in 2018 as the successor to the iX35 Fuel Cell, was already replaced by a new generation last year. This is now also happening in the Netherlands. This is the new Hyundai Nexo for the Dutch market.

The new Hyundai Nexo is an SUV powered by a 204 hp and 350 Nm strong electric motor. It draws its power from a small battery with a capacity of only 2.64 kWh. Instead of an internal combustion engine that almost constantly recharges the battery, the Nexo has a fuel cell on board. From a standstill, the new Nexo sprints to a speed of 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. Its top speed: 179 km/h. The new Nexo has three 54.2-liter hydrogen tanks that together are good for storing 162.6 liters of hydrogen. The range is set at 826 kilometers. At least, if you opt for a Nexo with 18-inch wheels. Is your Nexo on 19-inch alloy wheels? Then you’ll have to settle for a range of 751 kilometers. The Nexo is also spacious. The trunk is large enough for 510 liters of cargo. If you fold down the rear seats, you can carry 1,630 liters.

Hyundai Nexo in the Netherlands

Is the new Hyundai Nexo coming to the Netherlands? Absolutely. We now also know its price: €72,495. This makes it slightly more expensive than its predecessor, which changed hands from €69,995. The unnamed basic version is already well-equipped. It has 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a comprehensive package of passive and active safety systems. The Plus trim, which costs €80,295, offers among other things 19-inch alloy wheels, a Bang & Olufsen audio system with 14 speakers, electrically adjustable front seats with a memory function for the passenger seat, roof rails, heated and ventilated front seats, ventilated rear seats, and more refined interior trim.
