Jeep Cherokee: Possibly also electric and ready for 2025

This year, we will be introduced to a completely new Jeep Cherokee. We are now seeing the rear of that new Jeep Cherokee for the first time.

A little over a month ago, Jeep released the first images of the brand-new Jeep Cherokee. That model is very welcome for Jeep. After all, the previous generation Cherokee was already taken off the market in 2023. In addition, the Cherokee is, of course, an extremely well-known and therefore important model in Jeep history. The new one takes a different tack in several areas.

In terms of design, Jeep is looking somewhat to the past for the new Cherokee. For example, the new Jeep Cherokee is clearly a lot more angular than its predecessor, bringing the new one a little closer to perhaps the best-known Cherokee generation: the ‘XJ’ presented in 1984. We already knew what the new Jeep Cherokee looks like at the front. Now the rear has also been shown. In it, we see remarkably little visual frills. The rear consists of taillights with a light signature that refers to the well-known fuel jerrycans. The new Cherokee does that differently at the rear than the recently presented new (and smaller) Compass.

The new Jeep Cherokee, unlike the Compass, probably does not sit on the STLA Medium platform that you know from, among others, the Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland and Citroën C5 Aircross, but on the larger STLA Large base. That is already under cars such as the Dodge Charger and will also find its way to the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia. We are therefore not only betting on the arrival of hybrid powertrains, but also on electric powertrains. The fact that the file name of the image showing the rear of the Jeep Cherokee contains ‘EV’ only makes that more plausible.
