2025 was and is the year of the EV3 for Kia. 2026 perhaps will be the year of the Kia EV2. At the beginning of next year, the brand will draw the canvas of a smaller and therefore also cheaper alternative to the electric EV3: the KIA EV2.
Kia is doing well. Very good even. In the Netherlands it is great distance to the number two (Toyota) market leader and with the EV3 also has the most popular new car in the Netherlands. Almost 8,000 copies have been put on license plate this year. 2025 is therefore the year of the EV3, but also a bit of the Picanto who is the most popular car in the Netherlands with about 7,400 copies sold after the EV3. 2026 perhaps will be the year of a model that builds a bridge between the Picanto and the EV3. We are of course talking about the Kia EV2.
In February last year we looked at the Kia Concept EV2 up close and of course wrote about it extensively. We then wrote that we would probably see the production version of that compact cross -over under the EV3 before February – so before the next Kia EV Day – will be shown. That is almost certain now. Kia-CEO Song-Ho Sung tells the English car Express that the production version of the KIA EV2 will be presented ‘early next year’. The EV2 will soon be produced in Kia’s factory in Slovakia, where the CEED is currently being built. So the EV2 does not come from Korea. Striking: the Kia EV2 will not be sold in Korea either.
The Kia EV3 costs at least € 36,995 in the Netherlands. For that money you get a 204 hp electric motor and a 58.3 kWh battery. That combination is good for a range of up to 436 kilometers. The Kia EV2 will lean strong on its big brother, but will undoubtedly also get less potent hardware. We aim for a starting price of around € 30,000 for the EV2.
