Leapmotor A10 or B03X: electric entry-level SUV with a range of 500 kilometers

Shooting at Peugeot e-2008 with significantly lower starting price

Leapmotor A10

Leapmotor is happy to offer a lot for relatively little. It already has two electric SUVs on the menu and is adding a third: the A10. The Leapmotor A10 is compact and promises to have a very friendly price. And in Europe it will probably be called B03X.

Until now, the Leapmotor B10 was the smallest SUV on the Leapmotor menu. However, with a vehicle length of 4.51 meters, it is not small. The B10 is only a few centimeters shorter than a Volkswagen ID4, but costs a good €12,000 less with its starting price of €27,995. Leapmotor is now going several sizes smaller. In addition to the B10, there will be an ID3-like hatchback called Leapmotor B05, and Leapmotor has also found room for models below that. For two pieces. The gap between the smallest – the T03 – and the B05 and B10 is filled with a hatchback and a compact SUV. The hatchback will be called A05, the crossover A10. At least, in China. For outside China, BYD seems to be using the name ‘B03X’, as if it wasn’t confusing enough with those apparently randomly chosen number/letter combinations. Anyway: the Leapmotor A10 has now been presented in its home country China and is also coming to the Netherlands.

AutoWeek was able to show you the Leapmotor A10 from all angles earlier this month in a patent image, and earlier this week Leapmotor itself gave a first glimpse of its high-legged newcomer. The Leapmotor A10 is just over 4.2 meters long. This makes it comparable in size to the Opel Mokka Electric and is therefore also an alternative to the various Stellantis sister models thereof. The A10 has a wheelbase of ‘more than 2.6 meters’. It is about thirty centimeters shorter than the B10.

Up to 500 kilometers range

The Leapmotor A10, called B03X in its home country China, will be available in a version with an LFP battery that enables a range of up to 500 kilometers. Leapmotor does not yet share exact specifications for the European market. In the Netherlands, the Leapmotor B10 always has a 218 hp electric motor and is available with 56.2 kWh and 67.1 kWh LFP batteries. The smaller of that set may also be in the A10.

Striking design elements: the Leapmotor A10 has what Leapmotor calls a ‘Smile light signature’. Indeed, those are the smiley faces in the taillights. Also remarkable: the Citroën-like interpretation of the C-pillar and the fact that the charging flap is in the left front screen. All other Leapmotors have the charging opening at the rear. Finally, there is a Lidar-like pimple on the roof. Will Leapmotor succeed with this budget EV where Volvo fails?

Price Leapmotor A10

Extensive technical specifications for the version intended for the Netherlands will follow later. The Dutch prices of course too. It could just be that the Leapmotor A10 will cost around €23,000. That would be a sharp price to say the least. Even cars like the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross and Opel Frontera Electric are then not safe for the A10.
