Lucid and Uber join forces against Tesla: this is the Lucid Robotaxi

Larger, more spacious, and ready for production

Lucid Robotaxi

You probably know Lucid Motors from the Lucid Air and the Lucid Gravity. Together with Nuro and Uber, it is now making a stand against Tesla and is introducing its own electric car that can drive autonomously and will be deployed as a so-called robotaxi .

In October 2024, Tesla unveiled what it called the Cybercab. The Tesla Cybercab is a relatively small electric Tesla that can drive autonomously and can be used for, among other things, Uber-like car-sharing services. We don’t mention Uber for nothing. Together with that well-known car-sharing and taxi service, Lucid Motors has launched an attack on the Tesla Cybercab.

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Lucid Motors, together with Uber and Nuro – also active in the autonomous taxi service market – presented its own robotaxi. This is actually a car that is going into production and therefore promises to be more than just a fleeting attempt to attract attention. A month ago, the three companies already started practical tests with the car in California.

The Lucid Robotaxi, as we’ll call it for now, uses lidar sensors and cameras to monitor its surroundings. These sensors are mainly located on top of the car, which we clearly recognize as a Lucid Gravity. The module on the roof, where the SUV’s virtual eyes are placed, is illuminated to make the Lucid easily recognizable for ride-sharing users. The interior includes a display with which occupants can choose things like climate control, seat heating, and the music to listen to. Furthermore, it mainly appears to be a Gravity, and thus the autonomous Lucid already wins in terms of seating and interior space compared to the Cybercab, which only offers space for two occupants. The final production models of the Lucid Robotaxi will roll off the assembly line later this year.
