Near several popular winter sports destinations, a rental car has become significantly more expensive. This is largely due to the Winter Olympics.

Anyone planning a winter sports holiday during the spring break and wanting to rent a car on-site should prepare for significant price increases. At least, especially in Northern Italy. This is not surprising, as the Winter Olympics will take place there early next year. This is clearly reflected in the rental prices. According to Enterprise Car Sharing & Rental, you will pay no less than 78 percent more in Milan and Turin than in 2025, with an average rental price of €864 for an SUV or station wagon from February 14 to 21. You will also pay this in Bergamo, but there it concerns an increase of ‘only’ 56 percent compared to last year.

The French Alps are much more affordable. In Lyon or Grenoble, for example, you’ll pay less than €400 for a week’s car rental. Prices are at a similar level in Toulouse and Perpignan. What about Germany and Switzerland? Well, in Munich you’ll pay just over €400, and in Geneva and Zurich between €550 and €600. Austria can also be quite expensive, with €635 in Salzburg and no less than €883 in Innsbruck. Especially in Innsbruck, prices are clearly higher than in 2025. The highest prices are found in Norway. For instance, you’ll pay €1,155 in Harstad and €1,015 in Trondheim. In Sweden (Lulea and Sveg) you’ll pay about half that, while Finland, with around €800 in popular destinations like Rovaniemi and Kittila, is quite expensive as always.
