Ford Puma Gen -E – € 32,995 (temporarily € 29,995)
In this episode of Back to Basics we treat the Ford Puma Gen-e, but we could just as well have left ‘Ford Puma’. After all, the electric variant is immediately the cheapest Puma that you can buy.
What is that? More and more often we see that car manufacturers lower the price of (especially electric) newcomers shortly after the introduction, as if they were shocked by the reaction to those prices. This week we discovered that the starting price of the Ford Puma Gen-e, as is called the long-awaited electric PUMA, is reduced from € 35,495 to € 32,995. Moreover, Ford temporarily throws a € 3,000 discount over it, so that you are already entering such an electric PUMA for less than 30 mille.
Look, and then that driving range of 376 kilometers is suddenly very fine. The Puma can thus compete with, for example, the Volkswagen ID3 Pure. It is also temporarily for less than 30 mille and has a driving range of 384 kilometers. The ID3 is formally in a higher segment, but the market has already proved extensively that many people prefer to have an SUV.
The situation has become quite rosier for the Ford, but the success also depends on the equipment. A glance at the price list shows that there are two different versions of the gene-e, plus a temporarily available Sound Edition that is the most expensive version for € 37,795. They are all powered in the same way and all have the same battery of 43.6 kWh, so the difference is entirely in the decoration.
Yellow instead of gray
The basic version is simply called ‘Gen-e’. On the outside of course recognize him by the dense ‘grille’ and unique front bumper, but especially by the color. ‘Electric Yellow’ is definitely not to be missed and moreover (you don’t expect it with such a name) exclusively for the electric PUMA. In exchange, ‘Cactus Gray’ of the regular Puma is not available here, but we are at the front to exchange primer for sunflower yellow. LED headlights and indoor lights, sprayed door handles and mirrors and 17 -inch alloy wheels are standard, so such a basic model certainly does not look here. On the inside we find automatic climatecontrol, a wireless telephone charger, an armrest for, mood lighting with seven colors, cruise control buttons and a 12-inch multimedia screen with navigation, so no serious complaints here either. Chair and steering heating are missing, and are certainly useful extras in an EV to be able to heat as efficiently as possible. We also ‘miss’ Keyless Entry, although that is actually not a shame.
With a € 3,000 discount you can do anything. Going on vacation, for example, or ordering two mosquito nets and a roller blind for your house (don’t ask). Or upgrade to the premium version of the Ford Puma Gen-e, because the price difference between the two is € 2,800. The Premium therefore costs € 35,795 without a discount or € 32,795 with, where in the latter case you can say to yourself and your partner that it is cheaper than the basic version without a discount. That makes the threshold somewhat lower and brings beautiful Keyless Entry, a more extensive adjustable passenger seat, nicer upholstery, an electrically operated tailgate, 18-inch light metal, Matrix-LED headlights and Bangen & Oudio to your puma. It is a pity that you still miss adaptive cruise control and that seat and steering heating, because that is in separate option packages.
