Nowadays, the name Junior is once again associated with an Alfa Romeo, but we wonder if all Alfisti are happy about that. According to many, this remains the ‘real’ Junior.
Alfa Romeo made a name for itself as a manufacturer of striking open cars and luxury sedans, but also created many tasteful coupés. Especially in the 60s and 70s, a lot of nicely styled two-doors from the brand appeared. For the smaller budget, Alfa Romeo created the Junior versions of the GT. Coupés that were slightly smaller than the (Giulia) GT Veloce, with a smaller engine inside.
Here we have a GT 1600 Junior in front of us. It came to strengthen the Junior range in 1972 with its larger engine; previously you were limited to the GT 1300 Junior. This model had to bridge the gap that had arisen between the GT 1300 Junior and the big brother, the GT Veloce, now equipped with a 2.0. With its just under 110 hp 1.6 on just under a ton of weight, this was quite a sporty car for its time. The styling by Bertone was also well received and still appeals to the imagination. Partly for this reason, this is still a particularly popular and relatively often spotted classic in our country.
This copy, from the first year, was spotted by AutoWeek forum member Klassiekerrijder. The Alfa looks really beautiful, especially in the summer evening sun. This Italian was registered in the Netherlands in 1999 and has now been with its current owner for ten years. We understand the choice. This is really one to cherish. Hats off!
