The Citroën AX was never a very cool car to look at, but with the GTI you could still make a good impression. This Volcane is trying very hard to be a kind of GTI.
“For those who want it even sportier, we present the Citroën AX Volcane with a spicy 1.1-liter engine. With sill extensions, wheel arch moldings, exclusive sporty steel rims, a sporty bumper with integrated fog lights, sports steering wheel, tachometer and sports seats covered in fabric and velor, an appearance with a particularly active appearance.” With those words Citroën praised the Citroën AX Volcane at the time. Here we have one for us.

The Citroën AX as Volcane was indeed a smooth appearance and you would almost think you were dealing with an AX GTI. However, it wasn’t that much of a party, although even with the 1.1 the AX was really a nice, smooth-feeling car. The biggest difference with a GTI is perhaps the price. Even now, because a Citroën AX GTI easily costs twice as much as the Volcane still has to yield: €2,998.
For a Citroën AX, that is quite a high price in itself, were it not that we are dealing with a car that has only covered 89,000 km. Although the thicker bumper work is somewhat discolored, for the rest the AX apparently (apart from some stains) still looks like a car with such a low mileage. That is worth something. It is a shame that surface rust has found the special wheels, but well, they can probably be repaired without too much effort. Who will make a picture of this again?
