The road service is extra busy on Monday due to breakdowns related to the heat. “Cars don’t like extremes,” says a spokesperson. The ANWB breakdown service expects 4400 stranded motorists to need assistance on Monday. That’s about 3,800 on a normal day.
The road service is especially busy in the coastal provinces. This is partly because breakdowns from Sunday evening still had to be dealt with.
Because Rijkswaterstaat has activated the heat protocol, motorists with breakdowns are immediately taken to a safe location with facilities, such as a gas station where they can also get something to drink.
Internationally, the ANWB does not see more requests for assistance than normal. “The only notable thing is that quite a few cars in France have broken air conditioning.” The ANWB Alarm Center has no medical records related to the heat. In southern Europe, temperatures sometimes rise above 40 degrees.
