Volkswagen ID3 GTX Fire+Ice

Volkswagen introduces a new variant of the electric ID3. It’s fully called Volkswagen ID3 GTX Fire+Ice and is a thick, fat nod to an action model from a very distant past.V

Over the years, Volkswagen has had quite a few special editions of models like the Golf, editions that still sound familiar to enthusiasts today. A whole bunch of them were linked to the music world. For example, there were Volkswagen Golfs with execution names like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Bon Jovi and Rolling Stones. From the Golf II, Volkswagen delivered a special version in 1990 that was devised in collaboration with fashion designer and director Willy Bogner: the Fire and Ice. It is that variant that Volkswagen is now translating to the present, although it is called slightly differently. A more important difference: we are dealing with an ID3 and not with a Golf.

This is the Volkswagen ID3 GTX Fire+Ice. Indeed: a special version of the fastest ID3. The 326 hp Volkswagen Golf ID3 GTX has a special three-layer paint with ‘glass pearl effect’. Depending on the incidence of light, the paint changes from blue to purple and black. Around the roof we see red accents, at the C-pillar we see a cheerful geometric pattern and the car stands on special 20-inch light metal with purple accents. Of course, the necessary Fire+Ice badges are not missing. In the ID3 GTX Fire+Ice we see two-tone bucket seats, special motifs and sporty finished pedals with flame and snowflake logos. Bogner bag straps are attached to the rear of the front seats.

Like any other ID3 GTX, this special version is 326 hp and 545 Nm strong. With that power, the strongest ID3 sprints from standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The 79 kWh battery is good for a range of 591 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with 185 kW.

A total of only 1,990 copies of the Volkswagen ID3 GTX will be available. That number of course refers to the year of birth of the Golf II Fire and Ice. The additional cost is also a nod to that year, which amounts to €49,980 compared to the ID3 GTX Limited Edition.
