Back to basics
We are going back to the time when Audis still had huge overhangs, unpainted bumpers and window cranks. Back to basics, with a wonderfully simple 1988 Audi 80.
As outspoken as many Audis are these days, this Audi 80 is just as modest. Disarming, so understated as this example comes across. Orange indicators, black bumpers that sharply contrast with the white paint, hubcaps; yes, this 80 dates from a time when appearance was slightly less important. Nice, right? The spoiler on the tailgate is somewhat out of place with all that modesty. In the interior we also spot some relative luxury, because there are sportier seats in it than the 80 originally had as standard.
You probably won’t need that extra lateral support very quickly, because this 80 is certainly not a speed demon. Although it does not have the smallest engine of that time, the 75 hp 1.8 is linked to an automatic transmission. That really takes the pace out of it. We really have a bit of an old-fashioned 80 here and that probably also explains why there are just under 80,000 km on the odometer. It has also only had one private owner. In short, this is really one of those that has become nicely old thanks to a quiet existence.
Unfortunately, the Audi is not entirely spotless. If you look at the nose for a little longer, you will see that things are not quite straight. It may be a minor issue, but it is possible that the 80 has had a bump. So that is definitely something to be aware of when you go to look at this car.
