Toyota Gr Yaris Aero Performance

There’s always someone at the top, even when it comes to the naturally extreme Toyota GR Yaris. It’s getting a new version that’s even more intense than the crazy GR Yaris you already know.

Saying Toyota means saying sensible hybrid passenger cars. The Yaris is an example of that. However, the Toyota Yaris is also the model that has a pleasantly disturbed variant in every aspect called GR Yaris. The Toyota GR Yaris is a heavily spoiled, heavily expanded and 261 hp strong three-door instead of five-door Yaris with four-wheel drive that costs you at least around €90,000 in the Netherlands. Toyota proves that a GR Yaris can be even more intense with the GR Yaris Aero Performance.

The 1.6 three-cylinder engine in the Toyota GR Yaris Aero Performance does not deliver more power than in a ‘regular’ GR Yaris. However, the Aero Performance is packed with aerodynamic extras that should further improve the car’s performance. Toyota and Toyota Gazoo Racing say they have applied experience and knowledge gained in motorsport for these additions. That promises something.

Toyota GR Yaris Aero Performance: including huge adjustable rear spoiler.

The Aero Performance version gets six new parts that should improve the aerodynamic performance of the hot hatch. The GR Yaris Aero Performance has an extra cooling opening in the hood with a new cooling channel behind it – just like behind the grille. At high speed, this should ensure better cooling of the engine. The GR Yaris Aero Performance has a new front spoiler that should provide less ‘lift’ and at the rear you will find a new rear spoiler. It is not only considerably larger, but also manually adjustable.

Toyota Gazoo Racing also brings new underbody protection to the GR Yaris Aero Performance to improve airflow. New fender channels (between the front wheel and the door) and openings on either side of the rear bumper are also part of the Aero Performance party. Toyota has a striking anecdote about that renewed rear bumper. This was conceived after a GR Yaris lost a rear bumper during a race in the Super Taikyu series due to aerodynamic forces.

The Toyota GR Yaris Aero Performance can be ordered in Europe from this autumn. We do not yet have Dutch prices, but you can assume that it will be more expensive than the regular GR Yaris, for which you pay almost €90,000.
