Stellantis returns PK and Gum Department SRT

Street and Racing Technology

Stellantis sets a big name to lead the American brands of the group. More interesting: SRT returns!

Dodge and RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis has made a considerable promotion. Kuniskis is at the helm of the American brands within Stellantis. His new title: Head of American Brands. Interesting. Even more interesting is that the announcement goes hand in hand with the return of the SRT division.

SRT – Street and Racing Technology – has its origins in the team that developed the first Dodge Viper in the late 1980s. In the early years of this decade, brands such as Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep launched the first sporty SRT versions of models. The Dodge Neon came as SRT-4, the Chrysler 300C and Crossfire received successively variants called SRT-8 and SRT-6 and Jeep even brought an SRT-8 from the Grand Cherokee. In 2012, SRT was even a separate brand within the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which has since been melted together with Stellantis,, with the result that the Dodge Viper was sold as SRT Viper. That already came to an end for a few years.

The well-known three-letter combination has been used in recent years for various sporting versions of the Dodge Charger and Challenger and even the Grand Cherokee also received an SRT variant in the form of the SRT Trackhawk in 2018. The SRT indication is currently only fed on the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. To date, SRT has been part of that brand, but that is no longer the case. It is now its own division within Stellantis and it will develop sporty versions of models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. However, it is not obvious that those sporty versions get ‘SRT’ as a brand name.
