Chinese and Turkish cars make an impression at crash tests

4 stars for BMW 1 series, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Suzuki E Vitara and Citroën C5 Aircross

Grab the safety glasses and the dustpan and look. Euro NCAP has again done its best to relegate a fleet of new or recently renewed cars through extensive bone tests to dust. It has failed in full and that generally results in very nice test results.

In total, eighteen new or renewed models had to suffer. The majority of this returned home with the maximum achievable score of five NCAP stars. There are a remarkable amount of Chinese and even a number of Turkish cars in between. We mention the Aion V, the small and relatively cheap BYD Dolphin Surf, the large Exlantix Es, the compact firefly and cars such as the IM IM6 (MG), Lynk & Co 08 and the Smart #5. The Mini Aceman and Mini Cooper, which is partly developed in China, are also rewarded by Euro NCAP with the maximum achievable score of five NCAP stars. There is also good news for the two Turkish eyeballs on the European market. Both the TOGG T10F and TOGG T10X get five NCAP stars. We are particularly impressed by the results of TOGG. TOGG is a very young manufacturer and the T10F and T10x are the first two models of the brand. Hats off.

Less fantastic but certainly not worrying are the scores of four other models. The Suzuki e Vitara and his sister model of Toyota – the Urban Cruiser – developed and built in India both get four NCAP stars. The Citroën C5 Aircross also gets four stars on its report. Technical sister model Peugeot 3008 achieved that result earlier and so the catch for the Citroën is no surprise. The thoroughly renewed BMW 1 series also does not achieve five but four NCAP stars. Euro NCAP mentions the protection of the chest and the left leg of the driver in a frontal collision as ‘weak’. At the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Suzuki e Vitara, the protection of the driver’s chest was labeled as weak in a sideways collision with a fixed object. The Citroën C5 lost points in the field of protection for vulnerable road users and under the heading Safety Assist (safety systems).

We want to bring the Firefly more forward. The compact Chinese electric hatchback raced no less than 96 percent of the feasible points in terms of adult passengers. That is the highest score since 2024!
