Jeep Grand Wagoneer: electrically powered giant with a powerful V6 petrol engine

Jeep Grand Wagoneer

The largest SUV from Jeep is getting an interesting facelift. There are external and internal innovations, and there is also big news regarding the powertrains. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is now also available with fully electric drive, although you still get a hefty 3.6 V6 with it.

In 2021, Jeep finally launched an attack on full-size American SUVs like the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Suburban. It simultaneously introduced the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer to the American market, with the Grand Wagoneer being not so much a larger but primarily a more luxurious variant of the Wagoneer. Both the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are available in a larger size with an L suffix. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are now merging in terms of naming into one model: Grand Wagoneer. This time, complete with Jeep badges, which were not present before. That’s all well and good, but there is much more interesting news.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Jeep Grand Wagoneer: space, luxury, and indulgence.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer features a completely new front, complete with flat headlights, new LED lighting, and even a partially illuminated grille like the one Jeep introduced on the smaller and electric Wagoneer S. The rear lighting is also new, as is a larger, now 12-inch infotainment screen. The engine news is the biggest. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is currently only available with a 426 hp 3.0 Hurricane V6, a six-cylinder with two turbos that helps the SUV reach 100 km/h in under 5 seconds. Jeep makes no mention of the more powerful variants of this engine—with 517 or 547 hp—and the V8 also does not seem to be returning (yet). However, it does mention a brand-new powertrain that matches that of the Ram 1500 REV.

Indeed: the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is now also available with fully electric drive. This variant has a 3.6 Pentastar V6, whose mechanical power is converted by a generator into energy for the 92 kWh battery. The system output: 656 hp and 840 Nm. Not bad, right? For those who get very excited about this, we have to disappoint. The updated Jeep Grand Wagoneer will also not be coming to the Netherlands.
