During the home game at the Japan Mobility Show, Mazda showcased not one but two previews of what’s to come. One is the Vision X-Coupe, a precursor to a stretched five-door model, while the other is called the Vision-X Compact, offering a glimpse of a new small hatchback! This article focuses on the first.

From time to time, Mazda presents a study model that makes many people envious. We recall the Vision CoupĂ© from 2017 and the Iconic SP Concept that debuted in 2023. The first turned out to be a preview of the current Mazda 3 Sedan, while a production version of the second has yet to appear. At Mazda’s stand at the Japan Mobility Show, we are now introduced to the Vision-X Coupe. What should we expect from it?

Mazda Vision X-Coupe: not bad, right?

According to the Japanese, the Mazda Vision-X Coupe is a sports coupe that showcases an evolution of Mazda’s current design language. It is a 5.05-meter-long five-door, nearly two meters wide and just under 1.48 meters tall. Its wheelbase is quite substantial at 3.08 meters. Interestingly, it is a plug-in hybrid and not an EV. In true Mazda tradition, the powertrain is delightfully unconventional. The combustion engine is a rotary engine with two rotors and a turbo!

The interior of the Mazda Vision X-Coupe is also worth seeing.

The system power is as much as 510 hp. The unspecified battery pack is large enough for an electric range of 160 kilometers. Not bad at all for a plug-in. You can bet we’ll see various design elements of this car in the future. Perhaps on the next 3?
