Shock at Jaguar: ‘Top designer Gerry McGovern removed under supervision’

Jaguar Type 00

Jaguar design chief Gerry McGovern has reportedly been ousted. This is according to a report by the Indian Autocar, which bases its information on sources within Jaguar’s parent company, Tata Motors.

There’s trouble at Jaguar. The brand discontinued all of its models and intends to rise from the ashes of ‘the old Jaguar’ like a flamboyant phoenix. The first car of ‘the new Jaguar’ has been postponed, which means it will remain a brand without cars for longer. The upcoming restart of Jaguar and the media campaign were not spared from criticism from enthusiasts of the Jaguar as it existed for some 90 years. That something is actually going on at the car manufacturer is now apparent. Top designer Gerry McGovern has been shown the door, reports the Indian Autocar.

According to the Indian medium, McGovern has been dismissed and the Chief Creative Officer has been removed ‘under supervision’ from Jaguar headquarters. McGovern’s apparently forced departure follows shortly after an even bigger changing of the guard. Former CEO Adrian Mardell was replaced by PB Balaji in August this year. To what extent McGovern’s dismissal – which has not yet been officially confirmed – is related to criticism of the turnaround that Jaguar is undergoing is not known.

Gerry McGovern is responsible for the design of the Range Rover Evoque and is also responsible for the design of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Land Rover Defender.
