‘Asian cars in particular stay with the same owner for a long time’

Whether you keep the same car for a long time depends largely on the quality. Often that’s good with Asian cars and, not entirely surprising, owners remain loyal to them for a long time.

Japanese brands regularly come out on top in quality surveys. This quality probably plays an important role in the fact that Japanese cars on average stay with the same owner the longest. At least, according to figures from Ikwilvanmijnautoaf.nl. That site calculates that Toyotas stay with the same owner the longest, with an average of 5.1 years. They are followed by Hondas (4.7 years) and the South Koreans also participate, with Hyundai in third place (4.6 years). The top 5 is completed by Mitsubishi (4.5 years) and Nissan (4.5 years).

On the other hand of the spectrum, we see various German brands. For example, a BMW on average goes to the next owner after 3.3 years, an Audi after 3.2 years and a Mercedes-Benz after 3.1 years. Tesla (2.7 years) and Porsche (2.7 years) are at the very bottom when it comes to how long owners remain loyal to a car of that brand. Popular brands such as Volkswagen and Peugeot are in the middle, with 3.7 years and 3.9 years respectively.
