DS wants to go for larger numbers with old acquaintances

DS Number 3

DS doesn’t really have any sales blockbusters and the French want to change that. That’s why they are going back to what once worked quite well: the DS 3 hatchback.

DS Automobiles has been an independent brand for over eleven years, and although it was never intended to be a large volume brand, DS would still like to sell more cars. Its biggest success to date remains the car with which it all began, and that was effectively still just a Citroën: the first DS 3. Currently, there is also a DS 3, but unlike the original DS 3, it is a crossover. DS wants to go back to basics for the next generation.

In an interview with AutoExpress , DS designer Thierry Métroz announced that DS is diligently working on a modern successor. “My entire team is focused on the next small DS. We need a volume model with an attractive price and a fantastic design,” said the Frenchman. He already promises that it will be a very striking car, and again a regular hatchback like the first DS 3. It should offer a mix of sportiness and comfort and be based on the STLA Small platform. It will therefore logically become a direct sister model to the next generation Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa. The unveiling is still about two years away.

DS 3 in the Netherlands

To this day, the DS 3 is the best-selling DS in our country, including the current generation. 4,127 units were sold, compared to 1,830 for number 2; the DS 7. Roughly 3,000 of the DS 3s sold here were of the first generation. Another nearly 14,000 units were still sold as the Citroën DS 3.
