EV and PHEV
Nice milestone: BMW has built its three millionth rechargeable car at the main factory in Munich.
BMW officially speaks of three million ‘electrified’ cars from Munich, but uses a narrower and thus neater definition of electrified than many other brands. Where elsewhere a car with electric seat adjustment is already classified as a hybrid, at BMW ‘electrified’ strictly refers to cars that you can charge with a charging cable. So EVs and PHEVs, and in that category BMW has now built its three millionth car in Munich. It concerns a right-hand drive, because it is intended for England 330e Touring.
BMW reports that one in four BMWs in 2024 was a (PH)EV, and is particularly proud of the fact that cars with a fully or partially electric powertrain are simply built between the traditionally powered BMWs. This means that scaling up and down of ‘electric’ production is easy and offers many advantages for the brand. BMW builds 3-series and 4-series in Munich, the city where the brand comes from. The plug-in hybrid versions of the 3-series are of course included, but also the fully electric i4.
Last year BMW already had an electric milestone: then the millionth fully electric BMW was a fact worldwide.
