Suzuki Swift MSF (FZ/NZ) (2010-2017)

Suzuki Swift

The Suzuki Swift AZG debuted in 2010 and closely resembles its predecessor. However, this generation underwent significant technical changes. Its dimensions also grew compared to the first generation, while the weight was reduced. Its fine driving characteristics and good ergonomics make the Swift a popular choice as a used car.

Is the Suzuki Swift a good choice?

The Suzuki Swift not only became larger than its predecessor: this generation also drives much more maturely. You notice this in the improved sound insulation and the tighter suspension. This makes the Swift not only fun to drive, but also perfectly suitable for longer journeys. Its direct steering contributes to a pleasant driving experience, both in the city and on the highway.

The interior contributes to a pleasant driving experience. The seats are good and offer sufficient adjustment options to find the right seating position. The steering wheel is also easily adjustable. The interior scores points with its ergonomics and practical storage options, where you can easily store all your belongings.

This generation of Swift is the last to be delivered as a three-door and five-door variant. Even from the Comfort version, you can enjoy air conditioning. Furthermore, you will find the Swift with various other options, such as climate control, cruise control, alloy wheels, keyless entry and fog lights.

In 2014, the Swift received a facelift, which mainly changed the exterior. For example, it was equipped with LED daytime running lights, a renewed grille, turn signals in the exterior mirror housings and adjusted rear lights.

Performance

This generation of Suzuki Swift was available with gasoline and diesel engines. Those who want to drive diesel can get into the 94 hp 1.3 DDiS engine, which was delivered between 2014 and 2016.

If you want to drive on gasoline, you have a little more choice. The regular four-cylinder 1.2-liter gasoline engines deliver 90 or 94 hp. In addition, there is the Swift 1.6 Sport, which with its 136 hp is a popular choice among sportier drivers.

Space and practical usability

In the back of the Swift you can also easily stretch your legs as an adult, although the headroom is not exactly abundant. For children, the space in the back seat is fine, so you can also use the Swift as a compact family car.

The trunk space of the Swift is certainly not the largest within its segment. Before the facelift, the trunk offers 204 liters, while this was slightly increased to 211 liters from 2014. If you fold down the rear seat, you can expand the loading space to 491 liters.

Reliability and problems

The Suzuki Swift has the reputation of being a reliable car. There are some points of attention that you should pay attention to as a buyer of a used Swift. This generation sometimes sweats oil at the crankcase. This is best visible when the car is on the bridge.

In addition, steering and ball joints may be worn on used cars. When making a test drive, pay attention to whether you hear cracking noises, as these may be an indication of wear.

Finally, it is important to check whether the clutch works smoothly and does not slip after shifting. This problem mainly occurs with Swifts that have been frequently used as city cars.
