Once revolutionary, now strongly outdated: the Nissan Leaf. But that is no longer the case. Meet the brand new Nissan Leaf. He takes a different approach than his predecessor and is facing a new future with Renault-Hardware.
Highlights Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf is a real electopionier. The first generation Leaf was narrowly presented in 2010 after the Mitsubishi i-Miev and was therefore one of the first electric cars produced in series. The OER-Leaf found follow-up in 2017 in what Nissan called a new second generation, although that model technically embroidered on the original presented in 2010. For example, large parts of the sheet metal are interchangeable and the window party is even identical. Now there is a new Nissan Leaf and it is to the smallest nut, bolt, plug and cord new.
Leaf is cross-over
The new Nissan Leaf does many things differently than its predecessors. That starts with his packaging. The new Nissan Leaf is no longer a five-door hatchback, but a cross-over with a strongly sloping roof line. A compact ‘coupé-suv’, so to pull a controversial description out of the closet. For both the basic shape and the appearance of his newcomer Nissan, clearly be inspired by the Chill-Out Concept of 2021. The new Leaf has a front with connected headlights through an LED strip. On either side of the headlights we find a segmented vertical spur. Those Leders are optically tied together by a black plastic strip. In nothing, the Leaf looks like that other big -fresh electric Nissan, the Micra. The front of the new Nissan Leaf reminds us somewhat of that of the Nissan N7, the electric sedan that is not for sale in Europe.

The back of the Nissan Leaf is also worth some words. The roof line flows smoothly in a rear window that in turn transmits the visual game to a black plastic mask in which the rear lights are housed. In that black panel we find the deeper rear lights. They are made up of vertical and horizontal elements that are reminiscent of the segments in the LED lighting at the front. Between the rear lights, Nissan – nowadays apparently mandatory – writes out the model name. Other striking things in the LEAF design: the doors of the handles are sunk at the front in the sheet metal. The handles of the back doors can be found in the C-style.
Dimensions
Just like the new Micra, the new Nissan Leaf naturally plays on a basis that you also find at Renault: the previously called CMF-EV Ampr Medium platform. You will find that at Nissan under the Ariya, is used by Renault for the Megane E-Tech Electric and Scenic E-Tech Electric and is also under the Alpine A390. The wheelbase of the Nissan Leaf is with 2.69 meters out of 5 mm after that of the Megane E-Tech Electric. With its length of 4.35, the Nissan Leaf is a lot longer than that Renault. 15 centimeters, to be precise.
Nissan Leaf: very different from every corner than you are used to.
When we put the new Leaf next to his predecessor, we see something special. The newest model is not bigger, but smaller than the car he replaces. The outgoing Nissan Leaf is 4.49 meters long and has 2.70 meters between the front and rear axle. The new Nissan Leaf is therefore 14 (!) Inch shorter, but 2 centimeters higher and the same number of centimeters wider. Yet the newest Leaf-Incarnation likes more. The luggage space fits 437 liters, 37 liters more than in its predecessor.
Up to 604 kilometers of electric
The new Nissan Leaf will be available with two drive lines. The least potente of the couple has a 52 kWh battery and a 177 hp and 345 Nm strong electric motor. That combination helps the LEAF in 8.6 seconds at a speed of 100 km/h and to a range of 436 kilometers. Above that is the LEAF with 75 kWh battery and 218 hp. Already in 7.5 you buzz from a standstill to the 100 km/h. Relevant is of course the range. That is good at 602 kilometers. The LEAF with 75 kWh battery can fast charging with 150 kw, with the variant with the smaller battery you have to settle for 105 kW. Regardless of the chosen powertrain, the top speed is adjusted to 160 km/h. In terms of assets, the new Leaf does not surpass its predecessor, with regard to charging speed and action radius.
The interior of the Nissan Leaf has not been taken from a Renault model. The car also does not have the same workplace as the larger Nissan Ariya. You will find a panel in the car containing both the digital instruments and the infotainment screen.
In conclusion a numerical Leaf-Feitje: Since the launch of the first generation in 2010, Nissan has already sold more than 700,000 copies worldwide. Later this year the first copies of the band in Sunderland, England, run. Indeed: just like the previous Leafs. The leaf is therefore not far from the tree.
